Entry, Hallway, Bath, and Bedroom
This is the real start of the interior remodel. Mostly it's just flooring and painting, with a minor remodel of the bathroom.
There's a small patch of tile right inside the front door. That's where the work will start. The hallway to the right, the two hall closets, and the small bedroom and closet are carpeted in the same brown carpet that is in the living room and dining area. The bathroom has a white tile floor that matches the entry tile. All of that flooring is going to have to be pulled up in order to lay new tile throughout the entire area.
The tile is going to be a relatively dark tile with a medium grout. I realize that seems a bit dark — or will seem dark in the hallway — but light gray walls will lighten things up enough to allow for the dark tile.
Once the tile is down, the toilet and the vanity in the bathroom must be replaced — the toilet tank is actually cracked — but I'm leaving the rest of the bath as it is. Well, I am going to replace the sink and shower hardware, too. The horrid tan tile in the shower will stay for now. An opaque shower curtain will shield that tile work from view until I decide to replace it.
Some work also needs to be done to ensure the A/C unit in the hall ceiling drains properly. That will mean clearing or replacing the existing drain hose, scraping the hall ceiling to get rid of the popcorn, patching the leaky spots, and painting it Pure White (SW 7005).
This is also going to be the start of replacing the trim throughout the house. I want to have craftsman-style trim installed on all of the windows and doors. Right now, my windows have absolutely no trim, and the doors have shoddy, narrow trim. The baseboards are also tiny little 2-inch baseboards, and I'd love to have the 5-inch baseboards shown here installed throughout the house. All of the trim will be painted Pure White.
I may also install a plate rail or cove rail around some of the rooms. I have vaulted ceilings, and it might be nice to break up those very tall walls with a rail just above the eight-foot level, which is the ceiling level on the low side of each room. The walls below the rail will be painted in Morning Fog (SW 6255), with the walls above the rails done in Olympus White (SW 6253). That's the same color in the hall and the bathroom. We'll see how that works out.

The next room to be done will be the master bedroom. That's going to be a more expensive job in both time and money. As before, that's another project and another page.
